That amazong cover, coupled with the amazing Two-Fce origin story inside, made Two-Face an instant favorite for me, which he remains to this day. And from that day to this, I have always longed to own his iconic coin...
I bought the best replica I could find shortly after that film came out. And I was happy with it for weeks. It was a cheap metal that neither looked nor felt like a real coin. I quickly grew to loathe it and want to make my own.
So, purchasing a novelty two-headed 1922 peace dollar (the coin used as the base in The Dark Knight and often used as the reference for the coin in the comics) on eBay for a shockingly low $10, I got to work.
A quick note on those $10 two-headed coins: They are FANTASTIC. The detail and clarity is amazing, but nothing compared to the fantastic weight and feel of them. I also have a real 1922 Peace Dollar and the feeling is almost identical. And the *ping* you get when you flip these coins is great. If you don't flip it immediately after a real silver dollar, you'll never be disappointed (the real silver dollar has a slightly more satisfying ping). For $10, these are an absolute no-brainer. I bought two, just in case I messed up on the first.
You can see my whole build in the video at the bottom of the page, but here's the cliff's notes:
1) Start with the $10 novelty coin.
2) Dremel that bitch.
3) Use reference (I used the pic at the top of the page, which is of a Screen-Used coin).
4) Iron paste and some sanding.
That's it. Super easy and provides excellent results. I've looked around, and I don't think I've seen a replica as good as what you can easily accomplish with about half an hour. If you give it a shot, please let me know: I'd love to see what you guys come up with!
Here are some comparison photos of my bought replica vs. my made replica:
