Farnsworth Communicator (Classic version) - Warehouse 13
By The PropSmith
Of the props I have made, this one is currently my pride and joy. It is the Philo Farnsworth-designed communicator used by the agents of Warehouse 13, on the SyFy show of the same name. It is currently the ONLY Farnsworth communicator ever made that has electronics for lights & sound and custom internal electronics to make it appear to be a functioning device. This version of the Farnsworth has never been opened on-screen, so its internals can only be guessed at. But I like to think that the internals I've put together would seem right at home if seen on-screen.
Apart from the brass faceplate, which was manufactured by Russ Brown in the UK, all the parts are vintage off-the shelf components. I assembled, painted, weathered, tarnished, soldered and programmed this prop, as well as designing the electronics layout (both functional and aesthetic). The soundboard came from electronics123.com. The non-functional electronics and all the wiring were pulled from a vintage Farnsworth brand radio, for extra authenticity.
This particular unit has been sold off to a friend, but these photos will be a placeholder while I build my personal unit, which will look nearly identical.
I only have enough parts to make my personal copy, so I will not be offering these for sale. Sorry.
For more details, see the video.
